Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are
Hyperscale News is a daily intelligence briefing service covering datacenter development, power infrastructure, and water resources. It is owned and operated by JD Key LLC, a Texas limited liability company.

2. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you register or subscribe, we collect your email address and a hashed password. Paid subscribers provide payment information directly to Stripe (our payment processor) — we do not store credit card numbers.
Profile Information (Optional)
You may choose to provide your title, company, industry, city, and state. This information helps us tailor content and is never sold.
Usage Data
We collect anonymized analytics via a self-hosted Umami instance (no third-party trackers). This includes page views, referral sources, and general device/browser information. We also track which email links are clicked to measure content engagement.
Cookies
We use a single session cookie (hs_sub) to maintain your login session. It is HTTP-only, secure, and contains no personal information beyond a session identifier. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.
Ask Queries
When you use Ask Hyperscale while logged in, we store the question, time, answer, citation id, title, url, and short quote, plus operational metadata (model, latency, outcome). This log is operator-only — we use it to improve the product. It is deleted with your account. Your first successful answered Ask may email the question plus your name, email, plan, and subscription status to the operator via Brevo. The answer and source quotes are not included in that mail. Account deletion does not delete the sent message.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To deliver daily briefings and service emails
- To process subscription payments via Stripe
- To authenticate your account and maintain your session
- To send transactional emails (verification, password reset, billing)
- To improve our content based on aggregate engagement data
- To improve Ask Hyperscale from logged-in questions, answers, and short source quotes
- To notify the operator of a first successful Ask (question, name, email, plan, and subscription status)
- To enforce access controls (free article limits, subscription gating)
4. Third-Party Services
We share the minimum information necessary with these service providers:
- Stripe— payment processing. Your payment details are handled entirely by Stripe under their privacy policy.
- Brevo— transactional email delivery. We share your email address to send briefings, verification emails, and account notifications.
- Anthropic— Ask sends the user question and retrieved article text to generate the cited answer.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with advertisers or data brokers.
5. Data Retention
Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your subscription, your account remains accessible (with limited free-tier access) unless you request deletion. Ask query logs — question, time, answer, citation id/title/url/short quote, and operational metadata (model, latency, outcome) — are deleted with the account. A first-Ask operator email already sent through Brevo is not deleted with the account. You may request complete deletion of your account and all associated data by emailing privacy@hyperscalenews.com.
6. Data Security
Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and never stored in plaintext. All connections use TLS/SSL encryption. Session tokens are cryptographically generated and expire after 30 days. Payment data is handled by Stripe's PCI-DSS compliant infrastructure.
7. Your Rights
You may at any time:
- Access your account data via the account page
- Update or correct your profile information
- Cancel your subscription through the Stripe billing portal
- Request export or deletion of your data
- Opt out of non-essential emails
For data requests, contact privacy@hyperscalenews.com. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Children's Privacy
Hyperscale News is a professional industry publication not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email to active subscribers. The effective date at the top of this page indicates the latest revision.
